Myths about Hypnotherapy

“Can the therapist make me say or do something while I am under”? – Nobody can make you do or say anything that is against your principles. You don’t go ‘under’. Hypnosis is a state of relaxation with heightened awarenesses as your subconscious is bought to the fore.

“I have a strong mind and I don’t think I can be hypnotised”. – You are in control at all times in hypnosis, you can open your eyes at any time should you wish. Entering a hypnotic state is linked to intelligence and creativity. Strong minded people are great to work with.

” Is hypnotherapy like stage hypnosis”? – No, Hypnotherapy is therapy, which uses hypnotic trance as a powerful tool to facilitate change. The natural power of your own mind is used to relieve symptoms and alter unwanted behaviour patterns. Stage hypnosis is just a bit of fun.

“Can everyone be hypnotised”? – No, If you don’t want to be hypnotised no one can force you to. Most people respond well to hypnotherapy, but there has to be an element of motivation to want to make changes.
